A principal at Hafeli Staran Hallahan & Christ, P.C., Laura M. Hallahan concentrates her practice in the area of state and local property taxation, with primary emphasis on ad valorem. She has represented the Townships of Freemont, Fruitport, Lapeer, Marlette, Northville, Raisin and the Cities of Adrian, Clare, East Tawas, Greenville, Imlay City, Northville, Pontiac, Portage, Royal Oak, Southfield, Taylor, Tecumseh, Warren, Westland and Wixom, and the Oakland County Equalization Department, among various other government agencies. Ms. Hallahan has also represented taxpayers, including A.F. Jonna, Carlo Companies, Group 10 Management, Iroquois Industries, Jonna Management, Kimco Realty, Ford Motor Company, J.C. Penney Company, Inc., Sterling Bank, Treetops Resort, Turtle Lake Club, USF Holland, Visteon Corporation and Yellow Freight. She also represents both public and private sector clients in real estate transactions, environmental matters, and tax issues; and individuals in probate matters, estate planning, and business entity formation. Ms. Hallahan's extensive experience before the Tax Tribunal includes real property cases involving retail centers and stores (Macy's, Meijer, Northland Shopping Center, Target, Walgreens and Wal-Mart), apartment complexes, office buildings (Oakland Commons, Watson Towers, Galleria Office Center, Town Center and Travelers Towers), hotels/resorts (Hilton, Holiday Inn, Marriott, Embassy Suites, Red Roof Inn and Westin), industrial buildings (Denso International, Hawthorne Metal and Inergy Automotive), and personal property appeals involving telecommunications equipment (AT&T, Nextel, Sprint Nextel), cable equipment (WideOpen West), leased equipment, and office, industrial and construction equipment. Ms. Hallahan graduated from Hillsdale College, and received her Juris Doctor cum laude from Detroit College of Law in 1988. She also received an L.L.M. in taxation from New York University. Ms. Hallahan has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit School of Law, where she taught estate and gift taxation. She was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1989.
